April 8th, 2020 - AP Appreciation , ASP Support, and Crisis Contacts

It's Assistant Principal Week!

Ms. Cole

Ms. Jackson

Ms. Mercon

I love these ladies. When interviewing candidates last spring, there was no doubt that we needed these three as APs at Woodrow. For two, it meant taking a leap of faith requiring personal and professional sacrifice, a leap Ms. Mercon had taken earlier in the semester.
  • Ms. Mercon has built incredible synergy with her LOTE and Math departments, teamed with Ms. Pugh, Ms. Emery, and 9th grade teachers to oversee the Class of 2023, solidified our Dual Language program, and is thoughtfully managing the master schedule build.
  • Ms. Jackson keeps us on track with her focus and attention to detail. She has overseen some of our most challenging systems such as enrollment and attendance for credit, she stepped in for Ms. McLaughin to keep testing running, and she loves the teachers and programs she supports (IB, Visual and Performing Arts, and JROTC).
  • Ms. Cole's passion for her departments and cohort is undeniable. Because of her work with PE, Health, Special Education, and the Business Departments - each of these groups have raised the expectations and outcomes for students. They are also working collaboratively to support the unique needs of each team and individual.

Teams are more than a collection of individuals. These three fill personal and professional gaps for our campus in a way that I never could. Their dedication to the profession is inspiring for the rest of the leadership team.

I am thrilled to announce that we have 21 State Fair of Texas scholarship recipients from Woodrow Wilson High School this year! With a total of 179 DISD students who applied for the Pete Schenkel Scholarship, the State Fair received a very competitive applicant pool this year.

The scholarship is a $6,000 award, broken into eight payments of $750. Students receive one payment per semester and may use it for tuition, fees, books, supplies, housing, and really any college-related expense.

The Woodrow Community Foundation Scholarship deadline was extended to this Friday. Please submit your application by the end of the week. More information HERE.
