April 27th, 2020 - AP Memo, Big Week for Seniors, Grades, Vote for Woodrow!

Remember, this is a four-day week. Friday, May 1st is scheduled as an inclement weather day, and of all the uniqueness of this year, we did not have to close because of snow.

Woodrow Wilson AP Testing Memo:
Please review this communication about AP testing expectations and support - LINK
  • Directions for how to access a student’s AP exam will be sent directly to the student’s email address on their College Board account. Students will need to update this email address ASAP to ensure they get access to their exam. Directions for how to do so can be found here

A Big Week for Seniors
This week is a big week for seniors, as May 1 is the final day to commit to many colleges both in and out of state. ASP will be hosting Zoom sessions on making college commitments next Tuesday 4/28 (5-7 pm)Wednesday 4/29 (4-6 pm), and Thursday 4/30 (3-5 pm)Students can access that schedule here (feel free to share, especially with students who are still making decisions!).

ASP is also hosting our weekly sessions on financial aid verification, going out of state, as well as a new session on Promise/transferring from community college (this last one is on Monday 4/27, 4-6 pm).

Ms. Baz' office hours sessions will still be held at the same time this week (Wednesday 4/29, 2-4 pm + Friday 5/1, 3-5 pm). Feel free to encourage students to stop by! Students, families, and staff are also always welcome to schedule one-on-one appointments with me here or via email (lbaz@aspdallas.org).

The senior scholarship count is now at $9.5 million (increasing at a rate of about $1 million per week!). We're still missing a decent amount of award letters from students. Please send them to Ms. Baz.

Dallas County Promise Appeal Process:
We’re excited to launch the appeal process for students who missed the Pledge deadline! Most of our direct-entry partners are extending admissions and financial aid application deadlines, so this appeal form is only meant for 2020 seniors who are enrolled at a Promise high school but did not complete a Pledge.

Students without a pledge can appeal using this link: https://dcccd.tfaforms.net/37.

Students should submit any admissions and financial aid applications to partner colleges before submitting their appeal form. We do our best to send Pledge decisions within 30 days of receiving the appeal form. Status updates will be emailed to the student using the email they provide.

Grades:
Here is a link to a Dallas Morning News article: LINK

We have had some parents express concern that teachers are telling students that this semester is pass/fail, which is giving the impression that grades do not matter. I apologize for this confusion and any miscommunication. While the grade will not factor into GPA or Rank, the grade is very important, especially for those who need to course average. Grades will also be noted on transcripts.
