March 31st, 2020 - Hair We Go! Week 2 Day 2

Image
Yes - today is crazy hair day. Many of us have been without a haircut for longer that we would prefer. Fortunately we're able to sport our favorite cap while "Zooming." We may decide that barbers and salons are an essential business after today. Be brave and embrace what social distancing has done to your "do." Check out this award winning video about hair, and more importantly, the idea that sometimes when our roles change, we struggle. And that's ok.  Don't forget to add the hashtag #WildcatStrongAtHome when sharing your crazy hair pics. https://youtu.be/kNw8V_Fkw28 Please remember that next week is the last week of the six weeks and that all courses that a student is enrolled in will issue a grade. Some have the misunderstanding that only core classes have continued during this time. It is important that students also complete work in their elective and language classes as well. Some of these teachers have designed amazing activities, and

96% of students logged into Google Classroom yesterday. That's slightly more than a normal day at Woodrow. 96%! That's impressive. Thank you all for hanging in there this week.  Right now some student's classes may feel like "The Cones of Dunshire." We will continually work to simplify how students access work and how expectations are communicated.  What will help is making a weekly calendar. Here is a template where students can map out what you need to accomplish each week. The goal is for teacher's to have the week's worth of assignments posted on Monday so that students can organize their week.  Student Calendar Template Here are some tips from the counselors. Visit their page for resources and contact info: While we explore what at-home learning looks like, all Woodrow counselors will be available for appointment  Monday- Friday from 10:00-11:00am and 1:00-3:00pm .  You can e-mail at any time as we will be checking our e-mail frequ

Great Job! Yesterday, we had 85% of our students log in and complete the "Daily Check In" form! That's amazing for the first day of a new system. That also lets us know most students have access to technology and wifi and gives us specific people to follow up with. Great job! Step 1: Join your cohort’s “Daily Attendance” Google Classroom To start, students are to enroll in a Daily Attendance Check-In Google Class based on their grade level. Whew. Yesterday was a tough day. Out of District emails got bounced back. The phone rang off the hook. Food ran out way too early (This will be fixed for Thursday). Between these tasks, I jumped in and out of Skype, Zoom, and Hangouts before heading to home to help my sons with their online modules at about 6:00 PM. We are very fortunate to both be working right now, but juggling being a teacher, employee, and parent at the same time will take some getting used to. I'm sure your day was just as challenging, if not harder. Thank you for persevering. Seeing our staff come together and the agency of students were the highlights of the day. Continue to visit  WWHS COVID-19 Response Virtual Classroom Reference Sheet (Community-Facing)  for Google Classroom and Remind codes . Students came steadily for Chromebooks and emailed for support. If students still need a computer, please bring them to the horseshoe Thursday between 10 and 1 PM. If you need tech support, please call  972

Woodrow Family: It's with a heavy heart that we "return" from break apart. I'll use this site as a place to post important information so that we all stay connected.  Last night while watching Hugo with my family, the young protagonist remarks: I'd imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn't be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason, too.   Each of you is an essential part of who WE are as a Wildcat Family - so please continue to communicate with us during this period of physical separation. Know that we miss you and hope to see you as soon as possible. Please be safe and let us know what you need.  Meal Assistance Dallas ISD meals will be provided at J.L. Long M.S. Meals for students: Mon and Thursday, 10 am-1 pm. St
