April 14th, 2020 - The Last Six Weeks is Here: College Guidance, Attendance, and Grading

It's hard to believe that we are starting the last six weeks grading period today.

In a traditional year, many of you would have taken the English I or II STAAR test last week and we'd be shifting gears towards other summative exams.

Fortunately many of you still have an opportunity to participate in modified AP and IB assessments so that you can enter college with the credit you've been working towards.

College Board is hosting a webinar Thursday at 6:00 PM focused on "Helping Your Student Prepare for the AP Exam." Register HERE.

ASP is also hosting sessions for those making their final college selections:

USA Today ran an article over the weekend about how COVID-19 is influencing college plans. Read the article HERE.

There are still scholarship dollars available. Here is another opportunity with a May deadline. HERE.

Know that we are committed to helping all Wildcats stay on track with the post-high school goals.

Attendance
It's important that student make their best attempt to log in daily for attendance. This helps us know who to follow up with that may be having issues with technology, connectivity, or other issues.

Google Classroom Codes
Daily Attendance Check In - Class of 2020 (The code is xsz7q7v)
Daily Attendance Check In - Class of 2021 (The code is aradlk5)
Daily Attendance Check In - Class of 2022 (The code is oon2oi2)
Daily Attendance Check In - Class of 2023 (The code is hzk2gfs)

Student’s Daily Routine
Each day, students will log into their “Daily Attendance Check In” Google Classroom and submit the WWHS Daily Attendance Check.

Attendance must be submitted by students no later than 10:30am.
*Students need to login and submit their attendance in order to be marked “present” in PowerSchool.

What if I’m absent due to illness?
If student’s are virtually “absent”, PARENTS are to email the attendance office at woodrowattendance@gmail.com to submit their excuse note. Parents are to include their first and last name, their student’s first and last name, student ID number, date of absence, and reason for absence. Please let teacher know as well so that extensions may be provided if appropriate.

Grading
It's important students maintain communication with their teachers regarding course expectations and the support you need. This practice will serve students well once they graduate.

Teachers will reduce graded assignments to one per week but there may be other associated tasks such as readings that are not assigned a grade. With this reduced number of assignments in the gradebook, it's important that students make their best effort to submit these weekly and revise as necessary. The grade awarded for the course in the spring semester will be used to award credit, and can be averaged with the fall semester average if necessary, but will not count for class rank or GPA per revised Board policy.

If grades are not being updated in PowerSchool, please contact the teacher and then the AP associated with the content. Teacher and staff contact information can be found HERE.

Enjoy the beautiful day!
